Tom and willie from goodnight mr tom

The only negative with this chapter was that it was a bit slow to read. Willie Beech, a boy from Deptford who is physically and emotionally abused by his mother, arrives at the home of Tom Oakley, a widower in his sixties who lives in the village of Little Weirwold.

He is lonely as his wife and child has been dead for a long time. Which brings me to the negative part of the chapter: But after every chapter you can clearly see that he gets to like Willie more and more.

At first, William thinks this will be a good thing, as he can be helpful to his mother. Tom has become more social with the other villagers and more and more people start seeing him as a kinder man instead of seeing him as a grumpy old man. Tom becomes furious and says to Willie that he will never hurt him or any other child.

This was the saddest chapter in the book. Willie has become more comfortable with the village now and he knows his way around better. When Willie reunites with his mother, he discovers that she lied to get him to return and is completely fine.

The news devastates Willie, who has already lost his mother and sister, causing him to withdraw from life. Zach is very different from the other characters in the book because all the other characters feel very serious while Zach is very happy and always seams to be the fool.

William begs to go along, too, and Tom agrees with a sigh of feigned reluctance. He proceeds to get the train straight to London with Sammy, arriving late in the evening. Later, when his favourite teacher Annie Hartridge has a baby, William is shocked to learn from Zach that a woman cannot conceive a child on her own, and realises that his mother was having a relationship with a man, even though she had previously told him that it was wrong for unmarried couples to live together or have children together something which society in general had regarded as unacceptable at this time.

While speaking with Zach, Willie learns about the concept of sexsomething his mother raised him to believe was "something dirty" and unacceptable.
